Concert honors valley jazz drummer’s life
The community is invited to a free concert celebrating the late Maury Allen at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Basalt High School.
Allen was a jazz drummer for most of his 86 years and performed frequently around the Roaring Fork Valley. Music fans also knew Allen as one of the sponsors of the Valley Jazz Concert Series.
Tenor saxophonist Harry Allen is bringing his quartet for the event, titled “Celebrating Maury.” Jazz trombonist Dan Barrett, Walt Smith and friends, Bill Parish and musicians from the Basalt Community United Methodist Church, as well as other valley artists, will join the show.
Concert-goers should bring an appetizer or dessert to share. Soft drinks will be provided.
