Conners column inspirational

Dear Editor,

I felt compelled to acknowledge the wonderful article written by Jesslyn Conners featured in the April 2 Post Independent. What an inspiration she is! Such courage and insight for one so young. I commend you, Jesslyn, for speaking out on a problem that many in our society today either don’t understand or pretend doesn’t exist.

As an employee of Colorado West Recovery Center for the past seven years, I have seen far too many alcoholics and drug addicts come through our door. Oftentimes these people are considered “pariahs” of society and can’t get the help they need.

Your article spoke so eloquently of the lure of drugs and alcohol for the “first-timer,” and then the horrendous withdrawal process that ultimately follows and only gets much worse with time.

I hope your article will provoke thought, acknowledgment and support from residents of our valley that addiction can befall anyone.

If you know someone who has a problem with drugs or alcohol, please help them get the help they need.

Good luck, Jesslyn. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and thank you for being an inspiration!
