Construction shutters many RFSD schools for the summer

Construction across the Roaring Fork School District this summer means closed schools and varying school opening schedules in the fall. According to an e-mail from outgoing Superintendent Fred Wall, staff will finish school this year and start school next year on a fluctuating schedule. Wall said a similar schedule will need to be developed for the end of next school year and the beginning of the 2007-08 school year. Staff at Glenwood Springs middle, elementary and high schools and Sopris Elementary are required to vacate their schools by June 2 and return Aug. 25. Administrators also have to be out of those buildings by June 2, except at GSHS, where the administrators can stay until June 6. Administrators at Sopris Elementary, where all Glenwood schools’ staff will relocate until August, can stay all summer. Staff and administrators at Crystal River Elementary’s East Campus must leave by June 4. Staff at Basalt middle and high schools must be out by June 2 and will return Aug. 25. BHS administrators stay all summer, but BMS administrators must leave by June 16. Staff at Basalt Elementary will leave May 31 and return Aug. 28. According to RFSD’s construction-modified calendar, classes districtwide are set to begin Sept. 5. Winter break is scheduled to begin Dec. 23 and end Jan. 2, 2007. Spring break will be March 26 through March 30, 2007. The final day of school next year will be June 7. Contact Bobby Magill: 945-8515, ext.
