COPS not an ethical way to fund golf course

Dear Editor,

This is in response to Ken Cox’s letter regarding the proposed Glenwood Springs golf course. I know City Council is doing what they feel to be best for the community, but they still must be accountable to someone. And that someone is the citizens of Glenwood.

City Council needs to remember that in 1983 and 1991, we did vote, and the city of Glenwood said “no” to a golf course. I do not know about anyone else, but I feel that using Certificates of Participation funding is a very sneaky way of not voting and trying to overrun what has been voted on.

That to me just does not seem very ethical.

We have golfers who have signed our petition because of the way things have been done. They feel borrowing such a large amount of money without a vote is not the way to do it.

What will you say if they default and we lose the landfill? City Council has stated that if they make no money then, oh well, the most they will lose is the golf course, and this is just not true. We will lose a money-making piece of property.

Please just hear all the facts before you make your decision final. I have listened to both sides and just do not feel comfortable about the whole situation.
