Editor’s note: The following information comes from official police and sheriff’s department incident reports. Arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.

– On March 12, Rifle police were notified of a possible vehicle theft in progress in the 1100 block of Park Avenue, after a witness reported two or three juveniles breaking a vehicle’s window and taking a stereo from inside, then leaving the scene. When the victim was contacted, he informed police that no crime had been committed as he had requested the juveniles enter his vehicle and remove the stereo in order to sell it and bond him out of jail.

– On March 12, Glenwood Springs police arrested Katherine Jean Brant, 55, of Grand Junction, on suspicion of second-degree assault and driving under a suspended license. Police were called to a business on Mel Ray Road on a report of shoplifter who had left the scene in her vehicle; when police contacted Brant she allegedly assaulted an officer during the arrest.

– On March 12, Glenwood Springs police received a report of a motorcycle stolen from Gorilla Motor Works, some time during the past half-decade. During the investigation, police were told that the reporting party had left the motorcycle at the shop five years ago; when he tried to retrieve it, the motorcycle was missing.

– On March 12, Glenwood Springs police’s school resource officer responded to a call at Glenwood Springs Middle School after a tip that a student was talking about guns in school. The student was removed from the school pending a hearing by the school board.

– On March 12, Rifle police arrested Luis Gerardo Lopez-Rojas, 22, of Rifle, on suspicion of drunken driving, after police received a citizen tip.

– On March 13, Rifle police arrested Ricardo Meraz, 25, of Rifle, on suspicion of drunken driving, reckless driving, failure to report an accident, leaving the scene of an accident and driving under restraint. Police responded to a report of hit and run in the 600 block of Railroad Avenue and found a vehicle which had been severely damaged; they later located Meraz and arrested him in association with the accident.

– On March 13, Rifle police arrested Jess Salazar, 61, of Rifle, on suspicion of drunken driving. Police allegedly stopped Salazar’s vehicle in the 300 block of Railroad Avenue after noticing that tape covered the brake lights.

– On March 14, Rifle police arrested Johnny Danner, 43, of Rifle, on suspicion of harassment and domestic violence, after police were called to a report of a domestic dispute in the 200 block of Fravert Avenue.

– On March 14, Rifle police issued a summons to Sports Corner Saloon owner Steve Yetzbacher after police allegedly found the doors to the bar unlocked and people still consuming alcoholic beverages at 2:50 a.m., in violation of state law.

– On March 15, Glenwood Springs police arrested Heidi Shannon Barnett, 22, of Glenwood Springs, on suspicion of drunken driving and failure to obey a stop sign, after an officer allegedly noticed Barnett run a stop sign on Blake Avenue.
