Editor’s note: The following information comes from official police and sheriff’s department incident reports. Arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.

– On March 13, Rifle police arrested Luis Gerardo Lopez-Rojas, 22, of Rifle on suspicion of drunken driving.

– On March 13, Rifle police responded to a hit and run in the 600 block of Railroad Avenue. They found a damaged vehicle, and with the assistance of a passing citizen who saw the crash, police were able to find Ricardo Meraz, 25, of Rifle.

Meraz was arrested and transported to jail for drunken driving, DUI per se, duty to report accidents, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving and driving under restraint.

– On March 13, Rifle police arrested Jess Salazar, 61, on suspicion of drunken driving.

– On March 16, Rifle police responded to a house where a 13-year-old girl allegedly started a bag of clothing on fire in her house and attempted to jump out of a second-story window. The girl was charged with criminal attempt and released to the custody of her mother.
