The Holiday Fund helps raise funds for nonprofit organizations in Garfield County. Over the next few weeks, the Post Independent will be featuring some of these organizations that applied for funds, and the people who work for them. The goal is to raise $20,000 to distribute to these nonprofits. Donations may be dropped off or mailed to the Post Independent at 2014 Grand Ave., Glenwood Springs, CO 81601. Arrests merely indicate an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless found guilty in court.

Courthouse marijuana – Police responded to the courthouse for a report of a man with drug paraphernalia. Sebastian Quiroga, 20, was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia.Assault – Police responded to a report of an assault in a motel room at the Glenwood Motor Inn. They arrested Wade Vail Mortensen, 45, on suspicion of third-degree assault, false imprisonment, first-degree burglary and first-degree criminal trespass.Alcohol at school – Police cited two 16-year-old males for allegedly possessing alcohol at Glenwood Springs High School.Tree sale lot – Police responded to a domestic violence call at the tree sale lot at the Glenwood Springs Mall. Police arrested Robert Edgar McManigle, 49, on suspicion of third-degree assault and Israel Janice, 52, on suspicion of theft and harassment.Not-so-Christmas spirit – Police took a report of a theft at the tree sale lot at the Glenwood Springs Mall. Danny Lynn Smith, 31, was cited with theft.Assault – Police investigated several incidents in which a man was reportedly harassing someone. They arrested Preston Jacob Lambeth, 26, on suspicion of third-degree assault, harassment, criminal mischief and obstruction of telephone service.DUI – Police stopped a vehicle on Grand Avenue for a suspected traffic violation. They arrested Anthony Pepe, 51, on suspicion of DUI and speeding.DUI – Police stopped a driver suspected of harassment. They arrested Lorenzo Garcia Torres, 25, on suspicion of DUI and driving without a license.DUI – Police responded to an accident near 27th Street and Glen Avenue. They determined the driver of the vehicle that caused the accident was intoxicated and cited Ronald Glen Lane, 53, for DUI and failing to yield when making a left turn.

No license – Police stopped a vehicle believed to have an obscured license plate. They cited Jorge Baca Aguilera, 26, for driving without a license and failure to provide immediate proof of insurance. His vehicle was impounded.Assault – Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance. They arrested Juan Ponce, 42, on suspicion of domestic violence and third-degree assault.DUI – Police were dispatched to an accident near the 1000 block of Airport Road. They believe the driver left the scene and went to a nearby business. Shane Nicholson, 34, was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs, driving under restraint, compulsory insurance, careless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia.
