On May 10, Rifle police responded to a call of a dog biting a juvenile. A witness gave a written statement that the victim, a 10-year-old boy, was bitten in the stomach. Ana Alvarez, 41, of Rifle was cited for having a vicious animal and the dog was placed in quarantine at the Rifle Animal Shelter. -On May 11, Rifle police reported being notified that Sheila Black, 37, of Rifle was driving a blue pickup truck that had just left the scene of an accident on Wamsley Way. Black was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, driving on a revoked license, limitations on backing and not reporting an accident. -On May 12, Rifle police were notified of a man, Billy Joe Thomas, 25, of Rifle allegedly threatening serious bodily injury to a victim. He was arrested on suspicion of menacing, harassment and domestic violence.-On May 12, Rifle police were dispatched to City Market for a report of a man and woman fighting. Police arrested Federico Martinez-Velasco, 25, of Rifle on suspicion of harassment, assault and domestic violence after police say he took his girlfriend to a parking lot, grabbed her by the wrist and pushed her. -On May 12, Rifle police were called to Elder Court for a report of an injured magpie. A witness told police that she saw a group of 3- to 5-year-olds beating the bird with a stick. The witness then chased off the kids and rescued the bird. The bird was taken to the Rifle Animal Shelter and will be released to a wildlife specialist. Police also contacted the Colorado Division of Wildlife, which will investigate the incident.
