An article in Friday’s Post Independent regarding Carbondale town officials’ involvement with the proposed Hunt Ranch development on Missouri Heights incorrectly referred to the Garfield County Planning Department’s policy for allowing Carbondale and other municipalities to comment on county land-use applications. According to county planner Fred Jarman, the county Planning Department did formally refer the Hunt Ranch Sketch Plan to the town of Carbondale on April 3, 2006, and more recently the Hunt Ranch Preliminary Plan on Feb. 6, 2008. There is an agreement between Garfield County and Carbondale that requires referrals only to municipalities within two miles of a proposed development. However, the county has had a policy of referring larger land-use applications to any municipality within five miles as a professional courtesy, according to Jarman.
