GLENWOOD SPRINGS Valley View Hospital recently demolished the old Early Learning Center facility in order to put up a parking lot and a playground. The ELC moved into St. Barnabas Episcopal Church next door and continued child-care services in early July after hospital administration closed the old facility on May 23, due to a lack of structural integrity. At that time it was unclear what would be done with the property where the old ELC was housed, but it didnt take long for the hospital administration to find a solution.According to VVH Director of Community Relations Alice Sundeen, demolition of the existing facility began on Aug. 8, and she anticipates completion by Friday. Construction of a 20-space parking lot and a playground to accommodate the ELC next door is expected to begin shortly after, Sundeen said. The ELC has been operating for nearly six weeks out of its new location in the parish hall in the basement of the church, and according to St. Barnabas Priest-in-charge Torey Lightcap, its been a positive union.I think the reception has been very positive, Lightcap said. Its been pretty well affirmed all the way along. The ELC provides child care service for approximately 47 Valley View employees.Contact John Gardner: 384-9114jgardner@postindependent.comPost Independent, Glenwood Springs, Colorado CO
