Crews still battling Rippy fire

NEW CASTLE ” Crews continued to battle the Rippy fire east of New Castle.

Around 2 p.m. a helicopter dropped water onto hot spots, according to the Garfield County Sheriff’s office. Despite rain throughout most of the day, there are still a number of hot spots.



Juniper Valley Hot Shots out of Buena Vista, Colo. will be working on the fire through tomorrow with hopes of full containment by late tonight or tomorrow.

The fire, which started Sunday afternoon, has burned more than 20 acres.
