A westbound lane of Interstate 70 was closed most of the day Saturday after a culvert overfilled, washing mud and water onto the roadway.

The right lane of westbound I-70 near No Name was closed just before 7 a.m.”I haven’t heard of any major backups there,” said Nancy Shanks, the Colorado Department of Transportation spokeswoman. “Traffic is pretty light.”

Shanks said the culvert was blocked and maintenance crews were working to clear the road and culvert in the rain all morning Saturday.”They had back hoes and end loaders out there, cleaning it up,” she said.

This incident was caused by heavy rainfall, but Shanks said crews will keep a close eye on spots such as this one throughout the spring.”There’s a higher-than usual snowpack,” she said. “We’re expecting more of this. But today, we weren’t even talking about snowpack. It’s rain.”
