Daniel Lewis Sparkman

Daniel Lewis Sparkman, 63, of Basalt, Colo., passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a short illness on Jan. 15, 2013. Dan was born Sept. 11, 1949, in Denver, Colo., to Jerry and Christille Sparkman.
Dan loved fishing, hunting, boating and traveling in his RV. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Dan was a member of the Elks, Basalt Fire Dept. and was an Eagle County Deputy.
Dan is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Denise Sparkman; daughter Jessica Sparkman; son-in-law Dustin Mannon; brother Stan (June) Sparkman; sister Pam Sparkman; mother-in-law Louise Azoulay; Aunt Marietta Hardcastle; sister-in-law Cathy Shanteau; brother-in-law Joel Azoulay; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his faithful dog, Dudley; and special friends the LoBach family. He is preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life will be held Feb. 8, 2013, at the Glenwood Springs Elks Lodge #2286 at 1 p.m.
Family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the Gavyn Wilkens Benefit Fund (Dan’s great nephew) at any Wells Fargo Bank (Acct. ending in 6661).
Dan will be laid to rest at his favorite place – Lake Powell.

Forest Service investigates Independence Pass snowmobiling case; alleged culprit posted pictures on social media
Numerous people have identified Breckenridge resident David Lesh as one of the men riding snowmobiles on snow-free terrain near Aspen. Lesh has posted several pictures of his illegal activity on social media, including snowmobiling at what he identified as the summit of Mount Elbert.
