Dave McMorris

Dave McMorris, 60, died Dec. 29, 2006, at home in Basalt.He was born Oct. 8, 1946, in Elgin, Ill., to Sheridan Andrew McMorris and Emma Josephine Loeffelholz. He grew up in Boulder, where he met Christine Waldo. Dave and Chris married Jan. 31, 1970. They and their daughter Angie lived in Parker, and then in La Jolla, Calif., before returning to Colorado. They had made Roaring Fork Valley their home for the past 18 years.Dave was a developer and contractor in the valley. He built many residential and commercial properties, including 201 and 225 Main Street in Carbondale, notable for their historical integrity and beauty. Dave was passionate about his family and included them in every aspect of his life, from horseback trips across the Rockies to parasailing in Captiva. It was his family that gave him the greatest joy.Dave is survived by his wife; daughter; sisters Susan McMorris; Elizabeth Applegate; Mary Altinger and AnneMarie Wallace; and brother Patrick McMorris.A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at St. Stephens Catholic Church, 1885 Blake Ave. in Glenwood Springs.Contributions honoring Dave can be made to either Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 5005 LBJ Fwy., Ste. 250, Dallas, TX 75244 (komendonations.org) or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105 (donors@stjude.org)Farnum Holt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
