David A. Cross of Battlement Mesa, formerly of Long Island, NY, passed away peacefully on Dec. 12 at the Grand River Hospital in Rifle. He was 68. He was surrounded by family and friends.

Dave was an active hard-working man who worked as a trucker, mechanic and demolition worker. He had a quick smile and a sharp wit. He enjoyed car racing of all kinds, football, baseball, gardening, fishing and being on the move. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren: Candace, Michael, Izaac and Cissy. He also enjoyed riding around with his son-in-law and friend Gilbert Garcia.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Margret Hoffmann Cross, and an older brother Donald.



He is survived by two brothers, Richard of Bellville, Texas and Peter of Long Island, N.Y.; a sister, Dollinda Lund of East Haven, Vt.; an aunt, Beatrice Lang of East Haven, Vt.; his two lovely daughters, Susan Garcia of Battlement Mesa and Cynthia Swartz of Long Island, N.Y.; his wonderful grandchildren Candace, Michael, Izaac and Cissy; and one great-grandchild, Matteo.

A memorial service will be held in Dave’s honor at the Shepherd of the Mesa Lutheran Church,meeting at the Grand Valley Historical Society School House in Battlement Mesa on Friday, Dec. 17 at 3:00 pm. Dave’s family will warmly welcome your presence.
