Dave Shuler passed away peacefully in his wife’s arms on Friday May 22, 2009 at their residence in Grand Junction. He was 57.

A memorial service honoring Dave’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2009 at Fellowship Church in Grand Junction.

Dave was born to Dean Shuler and Rita (Kleinsorge) Shuler on March 18, 1952 in Oberlin, Kan. David graduated from Oberlin High School in 1971.

On Feb. 4, 1984, Dave married LaKen Heinrichs in Garden City, Kan. The couple resided in Kansas and Nebraska before moving to Colorado in 1996.

Dave began working while in junior high school for Don’s Supermarket, and after high school he worked for Raye’s IGA, both in Oberlin. In 1985, Dave started his retail management career with Gibson’s Discount Centers in Scott City and Goodland, Kan. Dave completed the management training program for Country General Stores in 1995 in McCook, Neb. He then transferred to Glenwood Springs to serve as store manager. From 1998-2000 Dave was co-manager of the Glenwood Springs True Value store. Dave rounded out his employment career in route sales with Voortman Cookies.

Dave loved sharing life with his best friend and wife, LaKen. The couple enjoyed traveling and taking road trips through God’s beautiful country. He was passionate about his involvement with the Celebrate Recovery ministry through Fellowship Church. He also cherished quality time with dear friends and family. Dave never met a stranger. His loving and compassionate spirit was an incredible inspiration to many.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife, LaKen of Grand Junction; his mother, Rita Garver of Oberlin; three brothers, Bob and JoAnn Shuler of Larned, Kan.; Don and Wanda of Belleville, Kan.; Ron of Salina, Kan.; and 2 sisters, Debbie Garver of Kansas City and Jill Howell of Hays, Kan.

Dave was preceded in death by his father Dean Shuler.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dave’s memory to either Fellowship Church (Leave a Legacy) 765 24 Rd. Grand Junction, CO 81505 or to, Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, 2754 Compass Dr. Ste. 377, Grand Junction, CO 81506.
