David Flinn

David Flinn, 94, died March 12, 2008, at the Colorado State Veterans Nursing Home in Rifle.

He was born Nov. 11, 1913, in the little farm town of Hasty.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1932, and was one of the few known “Plank Owners” on several destroyers, a title given to crew members at the time a new ship was put into commission. He was chief torpedoman on several destroyers.

He served in World War II and the Korean War, retiring in 1955, then from Civil Service in 1970 in employee relations at Camp Pendelton, Calif.

He is survived by daughters Patricia (Archi) Winters of Glenwood Springs and Nancy Flinn (Don) Srull of McLean, Va.; grandchildren Marin and Andrea Winters and Alison, Mark and Jennifer Srull; two great-grandsons and many nieces and nephews.
