David Paterson, 85, of Rifle, Colo. passed away Aug. 21, 2010 at Grand River Hospital.

David was born to Alexander and Dorothea (Sutherland) Paterson in Tillicoultry, Scotland on July 19, 1925. He married Elizabeth “Bessie” Gallagher Moffat in Grangemouth, Scotland in 1946.

They immigrated to Canada in 1967 and then moved to Sunnyside, Utah in 1972.

They became citizens of the USA in 1978. In 2004, they moved to Rifle, Colo. to be closer to family.

David enjoyed golfing, fishing, camping, pheasant hunting, walking and training his dogs and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his daughters Mary Coyle of Scotland and Dorothy Fearon of El Jebel, Colorado; siblings Stephen Paterson and Mary Bremner both of Scotland; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild and longtime loyal companion Misty, his dog.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 62 years, Bessie, and both sons-in-law, Columba Coyle and Ian Fearing.

A viewing is planned for Friday, Aug. 27 at 10 a.m. at Rifle Funeral Home. A small service will follow at 11 a.m. with Deacon Albert officiating; after which he will be going home to Scotland for burial. Rifle Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the Rifle Senior Center, 50 Ute Avenue, Rifle, CO 81650.
