DDA to look further for director candidates

Greg Masse
Staff Writer

The list of candidates applying for the Glenwood Springs Downtown Development Authority director was trimmed to three candidates, but at a Monday meeting the DDA Board decided to reopen the application process.

Before Monday’s decision, the board had narrowed its applicants down to finalists from Lafayette, Grand Junction and Sedalia, Mo. Each was interviewed by the board on Monday.

Board members indicated earlier Monday that the final selection of a new director was imminent.

But Glenwood Springs human resources director Sebrina Hoffmeister said readvertising the position could delay that decision by a month.

Meanwhile, the DDA will soon have a new home. The headquarters, now in a street-level office next to Club Cyrano on Seventh Street, will be relocated to the third floor of City Hall. The move comes in answer to budgetary concerns and to keep the new director close to other city employees.

The DDA will also launch a parking study to learn how to ease parking congestion downtown. It will be conducted from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Saturday. The random survey will question downtown parkers on the purpose of their visit downtown, their destination, the level of parking convenience, where their trip originated from and how long it was to last.

There are two openings in the DDA board, so anyone who owns land or a business in the downtown core is encouraged to apply.

The DDA has also begun circulating a newsletter to keep people abreast of DDA happenings.
