Delays expected on Highway 82 near Carbondale

CARBONDALE, Colorado ” The Colorado Department of Transportation has announced that the deceleration lane of Highway 82 at the intersection of Highway 133 will remain closed for the remainder of the project scheduled to be complete in September.

Traffic was rerouted to the new portion of the bridge on June 28. Since then the deceleration lane has been closed and traffic is being routed to the intersection and made to take a hard left.

Upvalley Highway 82 commuters should anticipate weekday 10-15 minute delays at the 133 intersection during peak traffic periods through September. CDOT expects delays during non-peak periods of travel will be typically less than 5 minutes.

CDOT recommends alternate routes if at all possible. Motorists traveling to or from the area downvalley from Carbondale are advised to use county roads 154 (Westbank Road) and 109 (Hardwick Bridge Road) to access Carbondale from Highway 82. Motorists traveling to or from the area upvalley from Carbondale are advised to use County Road 100 (Catherine Store Road) to access Carbondale from Highway 82.

Reconstruction of the Roaring Fork Bridge is on schedule and within budget of $4.64 million, according to CDOT.

Currently, reconstruction of the existing bridge deck is being done by the contractor for the project, SEMA Construction. This phase of the project includes reconstructing the bridge deck with reinforced concrete and an asphalt overlay, then tying the two sections of bridge together. This will be followed by installing drainage improvements and reconstructing the bridge approaches on the west side of the bridge.
