Dena M. Staples

Dena M. Staples, 68, passed away peacefully Sept. 16, 2005, at her Clifton home after a short illness.

Dena was born May 16, 1937, in Fort Scott, Kan., from the union of Alva E. and Ruby Lee Warner Barker. Dena spent her childhood in Odessa, Mo., and graduated from Odessa High School. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints faith.

Dena was the former manager of the Glenwood Springs Diamond Shamrock and was most recently working at the Clifton Supermart.



Dena enjoyed needlework, sewing and spending time with her family, always anticipating the next holiday with them.

Survivors include husband Samuel Staples, of Gunnison; sons William Bradley Payne, of Clifton, and Robert E. Payne, of New Castle; daughters Kimberly K. Stringer, of Buckner, Mo., Deborah L. Plantz, of Grand Junction, Valerie E. Carson, of Lexington, Mo., Ronda R. Minor, of Parkville, Mo., and Lisa D. McCune, of Kailua, Hawaii; sister Mary Jane Westerhold, of Odessa, Mo.; seventeen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.



A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, at Martin Mortuary in Grand Junction. Memorial contributions may be made in Dena’s name to the American Juvenile Diabetes Association, Rocky Mountain Chapter, 10555 E. Dartmouth Ave. #250, Aurora, CO, 80014.
