Dine on steak and lobster to benefit SIDS program

The Colorado SIDS Program presents the 25th annual lobster and steak sale, Lush-us Lobster Lovin, Saturday, June 10. Orders will be taken through May 31 for pickup in Rifle at Clagett Memorial Hospital June 8. Each one and a quarter pound lobster is shipped live directly from Boston and sells for $17. Eight ounce filet mignon steaks are also available for $10 each.

The Colorado SIDS Program hosts only two fund-raisers annually: the lobster and steak sale and the SIDS Walk to Remember in October. Funding for its services comes from these events and is supplemented by some small individual grants and memorial donations. The lobster and steak sale is the largest fund-raiser for the program and is responsible for approximately one-fourth of its revenue.

More than 7,500 pounds of lobster and 1,600 pound of steak were sold in 2001.

The Colorado SIDS Program is the only program in the state solely dedicated to providing counseling and support to families and others who have been devastated by the death of a child from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. SIDS is one of the leading causes of death in children under 1 year of age. It does not discriminate with regard to race, creed or income level.
