Dip in the road

James Kantas, a plumber with D'Agostino Mechanical Contractors Inc., climbs out of the hole outside the Roaring Fork School District Re-1 administration building Thursday where an underground pipe was leaking and causing problems. The leak has been repaired, and Earth Works Construction Company and Kantas hope to have the hole filled in the next few days.

The leak is fixed but a small dip remains.

That’s the status of a water leak on Grand Avenue near the Roaring Fork School District Re-1 administration building across from the City Market parking lot.”There’s about three inches of settling on the road,” said Dwayne Gaymon, senior foreman for the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The small dip shouldn’t cause a problem for motorists at this time, Gaymon said, but he added that they will be monitoring it to make sure it doesn’t settle more. The leak caused a large sink area on the sidewalk. According to Buddy Burns of the city of Glenwood Springs, city crews found the leak and determined that it originated on the school district side. Burns said the water leak has been repaired by school district maintenance crews.

Gaymon said the dip in the road will have to be fixed but he said there is no repair schedule at this time. “We’ll have a road damage sign out there and as long as people slow down there shouldn’t be a problem,” Gaymon added.
