Dissatisfaction with county is a poor reason to annex

Dear Editor,

This is in regards to your opinion column of July 17 in support of annexing Red Feather Ridge into Glenwood Springs.

It appears that one of the major reasons for your support of annexation is your fear of allowing Garfield County to be in charge of this development.

How long are local municipalities going to continue to base their growth management plans on this reasoning? I’ve heard the same argument for annexation from almost every community in the Roaring Fork/Colorado River Valleys.

In my opinion, we have a couple of choices in this matter: Abide by local growth boundaries as already planned for and let the chips fall where they may with other development or elect county commissioners who will actually require developers to build developments that contain those features the public considers necessary for a good development.

If we continue to base our growth management plans and annexations on Garfield County’s lack of acceptable standards then we may as well annex from Carbondale to DeBeque right now and end all this discussion.
