Distracted driver hits, kills woman

EAGLE – Police are still trying to determine what distracted Colleen Moore just before a Tuesday accident that killed an Avon woman.For now, Colorado State Patrol Sgt. Shawn Olmstead says Moore, 21, of Gypsum, was distracted by something as she was driving east on Highway 6 Tuesday morning about 10:20 a.m. In front of the Riverview Apartments, the pickup Moore was driving veered across the westbound lanes, hit a stop sign, then hit and killed 24-year-old Maria Estrada, of Avon. The truck hit some rocks before finally slamming into a tree.Funeral arrangements have not yet been set for Estrada.Moore, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Vail Valley Medical Center. She was treated and released. Drugs or alcohol have been ruled out as possible causes for the accident.”Speed and inattentive driving” caused the accident, according to a report filed by Trooper Brian Koch, who is investigating the accident.Moore could be charged with careless driving causing death, but the Eagle County District Attorney’s office has not yet received the accident report.
