Doctor’s order shouldn’t be necessary to get a mammogram
Dear Editor,
Breast cancer! Just the words are enough to send shivers down most women’s spines.
Beware! Women over the age of 40 should receive regular mammograms. However, just try and get a mammogram at Aspen Valley Hospital. Without a doctor’s order – and what doctor would deny such a request – it cannot be obtained.
To get a mammogram, according to my mid-valley doctor, you need a complete physical. My doctor denied my request for a mammogram without one.
Are some women out there abusing their mammogram privileges? Is there a clear and present danger in some woman actually getting too many mammograms? If you want to get a mammogram and nothing else, you are out of luck at AVH.
They seemed to be more concerned that the local doctor gets a pound of flesh, before you can receive this important procedure. Perhaps it is time for the great minds at AVH to rethink this arcane policy.
