Donald "Donnie" Paine

Glenwood Springs, CO Colorado

Donald “Donnie” Paine, 61, died of a sudden heart attack Dec. 19, 2008, traveling home to Cincinnati, to celebrate the holidays with his beloved wife, Karen Allen and her daughter, Rachel.

He was born Feb. 3, 1947, in Glenwood Springs, to Max and Glenda Paine. While growing up in Glenwood Springs, Don was a celebrated student-athlete and graduated from Glenwood Springs High School in 1965. He went on to complete his doctorate in radiation biology at Colorado State University and continued to work to develop safety technologies at nuclear facilities, resulting in restored wetlands on-site and secured waste off-site. Don was respected by many in his field, and colleagues remark he was often the only member of management who participated in office softball leagues.

He remained a fun-loving guy throughout his life and will be remembered for his sense of humor.

He is survived by children Staci Ascencio, Leslie Russell and Donnie Paine; grandchildren Grayson Thomas and Sofia Renee; brother Dean “Butch” Paine; his wife and her daughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Ronnie, sister Dorothy, and brother Johnny.

According to his wishes, there will be no services to dwell on Don’s passing. Please make a toast celebrating life in his honor.
