Donald R. Petersen

Donald R. Petersen of Paonia died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, after a nine-month fight with bile duct cancer. He was 64.

Mr. Petersen was born Sept. 29, 1938, in Oak Park, Ill., to Adeline Marie Swanson and Matthew Edwin Petersen.

He served in the U.S. Navy for four years and was awarded a good conduct medal and a letter of honor from the president for heroic efforts in the Vietnam War.



Mr. Petersen owned a construction and engineering business until 1995. He later worked at construction companies in California and Colorado, and served as an inspector for the Metropolitan Water District of California on one of the largest reservoirs in the country. He was most recently employed by Yeh Associates of Glenwood Springs, until illness forced him to resign.

Mr. Petersen was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Paonia.



He enjoyed fishing and building model boats.

Mr. Petersen is survived by his wife, Linda B. Petersen of Paonia; by daughters Netherlee Ann Potts of Iowa and Wendy Lynn Thomas of Carbondale; and by a granddaughter, Kaley Brianna.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21, at Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Paonia.

Graveside services are planned for 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery of the Western Slope in Grand Junction, with the Rev. Charles Steinberg officiating.

Taylor Funeral Service of Paonia and Delta is in charge of arrangements.
