Don’t be seduced by Red Feather plan

Dear Editor,

Some believe that the Red Feather Ridge development fits, and we must approve it. The high density housing plan offers the “American Dream.”

They say that the urban growth boundary is not relevant and things have changed. Money has been offered, and many believe that the instant cash makes the deal too good for Glenwood pass by.

So what’s the problem?

The problem is that Red Feather is not helping us solve any of the long-term problems facing us.

We have just annexed Glenwood Meadows and the confluence of the Roaring Fork and Colorado River area is being planned. These locations offer exciting possibilities for housing opportunities integrated with our transportation systems and pedestrian to our historic city center.

The Red Feather proposal is aimed at solving a bank’s problem, not our housing problems.

Don’t be seduced by this out-of-step proposal.

We need projects that are fully connected to our town, not a new suburb that will blight the rural countryside.

We are being made subject to the mental sprawl of the promoters of Red Feather Ridge who abuse terms such as “affordable,” “American dream” and “trophy homes” to promote and control the approval process.

It is not time for Glenwood to abandon any element of the Comprehensive Plan. Let’s instead affirm the Comprehensive Plan and the public process that created it.

Please vote “no” on the Red Feather question.

Then we have more work to do.
