Don’t prosecute driver in fatal firefighter wreck

Jenny Lang & Timothy Burns

Dear Editor,We are saddened and appalled after reading the article in the Glenwood Springs Post Independent about the prosecution of Megan Helm. Here is a young woman who has dedicated her life to saving our homes, our lives and our livelihood. She is one of the many heroes who has come to Colorado to help us at this most desperate time. What value does the legal system, family members and society gain by prosecuting Ms. Helm for an unfortunate and sad accident? So far, the media has only pointed out that there is no evidence to support any criminal negligence. Prosecution will only make a sad situation worse. It seems that we should only offer our support and prayers for the Ms. Helm, the injured firefighters and of course the deceased. We encourage the district attorney to reconsider his charges against Ms. Helm.Jenny LangTimothy BurnsGlenwood Springs
