Don’t turn Carbondale into a city

Dear Editor,

It amazes me how often newcomers moving here try to bring along those things that they left behind, like big-box shopping.

People need to accept Carbondale for what it is, a small town, instead of trying to change it into something else. When people try to force changes on others, it never works. Moving to Carbondale is like marrying someone. A husband or wife cannot change the other person. The other person has to want to change themselves.

I have lived here for 22 years and would never want Carbondale to become any more urbanized than it is. I moved here from Southern California to escape it! If you want city amenities, then move to the city. Don’t try and change Carbondale to suit your wants. Vote “no” on July 15.
