Dorothy "Gongie" Hart

Dorothy “Gongie” Hart, 78, passed away on July 25, at Grand River Hospital in Rifle. Dorothy was born in New York on Dec. 28, 1927, to James McDonald and Florence Biehl, joining younger sisters Florence Koslowski and Joan Theim, both of New York. She was the loving wife of 55 years to James Hart, of Battlement Mesa. She was especially fond of her son Richard Hart, of Telluride, and her two granddaughters, Cassie Hart, of Fort Collins, and Kellie Hart, of Denver. Dorothy was very close to all of her nieces and nephews and all of their children.Dorothy worked in New York City as a secretary to the vice president of the Swiss Bank before marrying and becoming a housewife in 1951. Dorothy was an avid reader and had a library of more than 2,000 books. Additionally, she collected Acoma pottery, and had more than 100 pots. She also enjoyed attending basketball games and track meets, especially the Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden.Cremation is taking place. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Long Island, New York, with close friends and family.
