Downtown decorating contest lights up Glenwood

Staff Report

The Downtown Retail and Restaurant Committee of the DDA recently sponsored its first storefront decorating contest. The results are a feast for the eyes of those who shop, stroll and dine downtown during the holiday season.Almost 30 Glenwood Springs businesses participated in the contest. Judges walked the downtown streets earlier this month to view competing windows and storefronts. The People’s Choice winner was selected through ballots in the GSPI Friday Focus, as well as at each of the businesses. Voting for the People’s Choice ended on Sunday, Dec. 12.”The whole idea behind the storefront decorating contest was to inspire and challenge downtown business owners to put some extra effort into their decorations this year,” said Robin Haney, owner of Robin’s Hallmark, who spearheaded this year’s contest. “We wanted to make downtown look so festive and inviting that it would attract folks to come downtown to shop and dine. We were also hoping to create some great Christmas memories for local children.””The whole idea behind the storefront decorating contest was to inspire and challenge downtown business owners to put some extra effort into their decorations this year,” said Robin Haney, owner of Robin’s Hallmark, who spearheaded this year’s contest. “We wanted to make downtown look so festive and inviting that it would attract folks to come downtown to shop and dine.
