Downvalley commuter traffic jam:

Westbound motorists drove into a hellish traffic jam on Interstate 70 Monday evening. The jam started forming at 4 p.m. and didn’t ease until 9 p.m. Traffic crawled from No Name to the paving zone, and crept along West Midland Avenue and Highway 6 & 24. Some motorists spent two hours driving from Glenwood to New Castle. The slowdown was due to a chip seal project on Interstate 70 in South Canyon from the main Glenwood interchange to the Canyon Creek exit. The Colorado Department of Transportation Web site states that the project will continue through Thursday, July 24. Project hours were slated for 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
