Eagle woman, 65, dies in car accident

GRAND JUNCTION An Eagle woman died after her car crashed on Interstate 70 before 11 a.m. Tuesday, authorities said.Linda Beagley was driving a maroon Pontiac sedan when it rolled twice and came to a stop at mile 32, Grand Junction police said. Beagley, 65, died in an ambulance on the way to the hospital, police said.Alcohol and speed are not suspected in the accident, police said.Family members think that Beagley wanted to surprise her husband, Donald Beagley, for lunch in Grand Junction, where he was working Tuesday, son Mark Beagley said.Strong winds made driving 75 miles per hour and maintaining control difficult for many motorists Tuesday morning on I-70. Winds whipped across the interstate northwest at 26 miles per hour and were gusting to 36 miles per hour at the time of the accident, according to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction.Near the accident scene lay three crosses commemorating another fatal accident on this stretch of road. The area is near where Eagle teenager Jake Brock and girlfriend Jennifer Kois died March 22 after former police officer Patrick Strawmatt allegedly crashed into their car while driving drunk.Beagley was the matriarch of the family and held everything together, Mark Beagley said.Beagley worked at Honey Bun, a donut shop in Eagle, and she loved to serve people, he said.Beagley is survived by her five children, Marty, 39, Mark, 43, Roxy, 45, Reva, 46, and seven grandchildren.A service will be held at Glenwood Springs Church of Christ, 260 Soccer Field Rd, at 2 p.m. Saturday.The family requests that people send flowers to the church.She was a flower person, and I know she would enjoy flowers, Mark Beagley said.Grand Junction Free Press writer Emily Anderson contributed to this report.
