Earl "Cliff" Speck Jr.

Earl “Cliff” Speck Jr., 81, of Rifle, died July 21, 2006, at his rural Rifle home. Cliff was born May 20, 1925, in Los Angeles, to Earl Clifford and Katherine Mae (Thurston) Speck.He spent many years as a self-employed automobile mechanic up until he retired in 2002. In addition to working on automobiles, he loved to restore classic cars and attend classic car shows. He also had a deep passion for music, especially “Dixieland Jazz” and saxophones, and playing music at senior parties. He also loved to spend time in the garden, fishing, golfing and bowling. He was a past master of the Masonic Lodge where he was a member for more than 25 years.Cliff is survived by his wife, Wanda, of Rifle; son Robert (Amy) Speck of Rock Springs, Wyo.; daughter Pamela (Kirk) Ping of Pinewood Springs; sister Nancy McManus of Fruitvale; brother Fred (Terry) West of Phoenix; aunt Nancy Guerie of Cedaredge; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews. Cliff is preceded in death by his first wife, a brother and a grandson.A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, at the First Christian Church in Rifle. Family interment services will be held at a later date in the Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Cochran Memorial Chapel.
