Early rallies lift Bears to win over rival Coal Ridge

Glenwood Springs, CO Colorado

Scoring four runs apiece in the first and second innings, Rifle held on for an 11-6 baseball win over visiting Coal Ridge on Wednesday.

The win gave the Bears a sweep of the two-game season series against their Garfield School District Re-2 mates.

Rifle got started early against the Titans, with hits by Triston Quigley and Hunter Finger fueling the first-inning rally.

Hits by Jacob Withee, Luke Buss, Cody Chick, Danny Bartels and Finger produced the Bears’ four second-inning runs. Bartels and Finger capped the rally with back-to-back RBI doubles.

After Coal Ridge posted two runs in the top of the third inning to make it 8-2, Rifle responded with a run off a Buss double in the bottom of the inning.

The Bears tacked on two more runs in the fourth behind hits by Bartels, Finger, Tyler Wilson and Nate Schilt.

The Titans plated two runs apiece in the fifth and sixth innings to round out the final count.

Finger finished the day 3 for 4 for Rifle, which improved to 12-5 overall and to 11-5 in the 3A Western Slope League. Buss and Bartels chipped in with two hits and two RBIs apiece. Wilson also had two hits.

Cameron Cotton and Dejon Elmer led Coal Ridge (5-12, 5-11) with three hits each. Robby Moore had two hits and Cole Ryan one.

Rifle heads to Basalt for an 11 a.m. doubleheader on Saturday. Coal Ridge hosts Hotchkiss for two the same day at 11 a.m.
