Eastbound I-70 in DeBeque Canyon, Independence Pass reopen

By 2 p.m. today, the Colorado Department of Transportation expects to open the inside (left) lane of eastbound Interstate 70 in DeBeque Canyon (mile markers 55 to 58). Once eastbound traffic is switched back over, there will be two lanes of traffic flowing in the westbound lanes.Eastbound traffic will remain in a single-lane configuration until maintenance crews can finish clearing rock material from the roadside and replace about 100 feet of concrete barrier damaged by the Sept. 16 rock slide. Motorists in the eastbound lane are urged to drive slowly and maintain a safe following distance; the speed limit will be reduced, and minor travel delays can be expected.Independence Pass is open again after last week’s snowfall closed it. After the storm moved out and the highway was cleared of snow, the pass was re-opened. CDOT hopes to keep the pass open until Nov. 7, unless weather or visibility forces an early closure.
