Eastbound I-70 in Glenwood Canyon to close tonight
GLENWOOD SPRINGS ” Both lanes of eastbound Interstate 70 in Glenwood Canyon will be closed to travel for two 90-minute stretches after midnight Monday, while crews install new variable-message signs just west of the Hanging Lake Tunnel.
All eastbound traffic will be halted twice ” for up to 90 minutes each time, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. Travel will be halted from midnight to 1:30 a.m. and again in the wee hours of Tuesday ” from 2 to 3:30 a.m. The stops are necessary to set the signs over the lanes of travel and allow concrete to cure, CDOT said.
Motorists who need to be on the Front Range Tuesday morning should plan to travel east before midnight, CDOT advised.
Traffic will be halted again for an hour, starting Tuesday at midnight, when crews will remove a sign. Check CDOT’s website, at http://www.cotrip.org (click on Alerts and Restrictions), to confirm Tuesday night’s closure.
CDOT is working with a contractor to replace four of the electronic signs for eastbound travel on the interstate, west of the Hanging Lake Tunnel. Future nighttime stops are planned for placement of the third and fourth signs; those closures have not yet been announced.
