Four high school graduations are scheduled for this weekend.The graduating classes from Bridges High and Yampah High School will receive their diplomas on Friday at Sunlight Mountain Resort.The Yampah ceremony is set for 10 a.m., followed by Bridges at 4 p.m.On Saturday, the Class of 2008 for Glenwood Springs will have its ceremony at 4 p.m. at the high school football field. Earlier on Saturday at 1 p.m. Roaring Fork will send off its graduating class.
Symphony in the Valley has awarded the Jon Madsen Memorial Scholarship to two graduating seniors in the orchestra.Nuala Del Piccolo, Basalt High School valedictorian, and Annie Tempest, Roaring Fork High School valedictorian, each received a $1,000 scholarship from the orchestra. Nuala plays in the horn section of the orchestra, and Annie plays with the first violins and performed her senior concerto at the orchestra’s Mother’s Day weekend concerts.Nuala will attend Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Annie will attend Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa.The scholarship was first awarded in 2000 in memory of Jon Madsen of Grand Junction, the orchestra’s founding conductor.For more information, visit http://www.sitv.org/scholarship.
