Carbondale Middle School sixth-graders recently completed a school community service project for recycling.
“They painted and created artwork on recycling cans and paper bins to place around our school building and grounds, and learned about human/environment interactions and how we can do our part to reduce waste,” teacher Wendy Hayden said.
The trash cans were donated by ACE Hardware in Carbondale.
The students presented the recycling bins last week to the rest of the school and placed them in the halls for use. The class will also be in charge of emptying them.
Riverside Middle School will hold its 11th annual Harvest Daze Celebration on Friday, Oct. 30.
If you are interested in participating, please contact Cami Duty at 665-7823.
Come join the day’s festivities – students will enjoy arts and crafts, fun snacks, and a variety of community sponsored activities.
Cactus Valley Elementary in Silt is looking for moms, dads, grandmas, granddads, aunts, uncles, friends and neighbors to listen and help during children’s reading time.
There is no training required, just a desire to listen and help with a few words. The stories the children read are fun and exciting, and the one-on-one conversations with the children are truly enlightening. Talking about the stories adds to the fun.
An hour or two a week with no rigid schedule makes it a no-stress and delightful community service, and a great help to the children’s reading ability. The more they read the better they read, and the more they enjoy reading.
