Elaine Dorothy Diaz Alire

Elaine Alire, 65, passed away Aug. 28, 2008, at home in Grand Junction of natural causes.

She was born March 9, 1943, in Silt, to Frank and Della Crespin Diaz. She graduated from high school in Silt, and graduated from Colorado Mountain College in Glenwood Springs with a certificate in business administration.

Elaine married Ross V. Alire in 1960 in Silt. She lived in the Grand Valley for the past 43 years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, was a Eucharistic minister, a Stephen’s minister, served as a jailhouse minister and sang in the choir.

Elaine was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She dedicated her life to helping others. She worked as a case worker and retired from Mesa County Department of Social Services after 34 years.

Elaine enjoyed photography, picnicking with her family, church retreats, and viewing wildlife and singing with the choir.

Elaine will be missed, but she is at peace in heaven.

Survivors include sons Ross V. Alire of Rangely and Kirk A. Alire of Grand Junction; daughters Terry Kellerby of Clifton and Debra Stone of Mesa; five grandchildren; brother Fred Diaz of Rifle; sister Stella Urban of Denver.

Her husband and one brother, Manual Diaz, preceded her in death.

A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, in the Callahan-Edfast Mortuary in Grand Junction. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
