Election 2010 Endorsement: Keep John Gorman as county assessor

Post Independent
Glenwood Springs, CO Colorado

Although it is apparent that the job of Garfield County Assessor could be done, and done well by either of the two men running for the post, we think the incumbent, John Gorman, has been doing a good job and deserves to be retained.

For one thing, Gorman has made it his mission to be sure that the oil and gas industry in Garfield County is paying all of its share in property taxes.

As a result of his work, more than $6 million in underreported revenues has made it into the county’s coffers, and we are told that even the industry’s own bookkeepers are glad to see any discrepancies straightened out.

We also believe Gorman is correct in his view that the county gets the best bang for its bucks by having highly-trained expert appraisers tackle the county’s semi-annual commercial property reassessments.

Vote for John Gorman for county assessor.
