Elizabeth "Betty" Mayer

Elizabeth “Betty” Mayer of Glenwood Springs died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003. She was 74.

She was born July 31, 1928, in Monon, Ind., to Ella Benson McGowan Smelzer and Tom McGowan.

The family moved to Colorado in 1929, and she grew up in Del Norte. She graduated from Del Norte High School.

She was married to Eddie Mayer on Sept. 24, 1964, in Colorado Springs.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and by sons Johnnie Sneff and Steven Gene Stevenson.

Mrs. Mayer is survived by her husband, Eddie Mayer of Glenwood Springs; by sons and daughter-in-law Michael Mayer of Glenwood Springs, and Carl and Lonnie Kitchens of Cleveland, Ohio; by a daughter, Kathy Farough of Colorado Springs; by sisters Ardith Duplice of Glenwood Springs, and Eleanor Rose Erickson of Phoenix, Ariz.; by grandchildren Cassie Kitchens, Alex Kitchens and Yama Farough; by a great-granddaughter expected in April; and by many cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 1 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, at the Farnum Holt Funeral Home Chapel, 405 W. 7th St., in Glenwood Springs, with the Rev. Jimmy Brown officiating. A reception will follow at the First Assembly of God Church, 1123 Pitkin Ave., Glenwood Springs.
