North Fork resident Ellen I. Barnes passed away Sunday, May 24, 2009, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s plus syndrome at Paonia Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was 69 years of age.

Upon Ellen’s request, no services will be held.

Ellen I. Woods was born to David Woods and Katie (Whitener) Woods on March 28, 1940, in Olathe. She spent her childhood in Olathe, and graduated from Olathe High School with the class of 1958. Ellen resided in Basalt for many years before moving to Hotchkiss four years ago. As a result of her declining health, Ellen moved to Paonia Care, where she received personal care until her passing.

Ellen was employed as a phone operator until her retirement seven years ago. More importantly, she was a loving mother and grandmother. Ellen enjoyed working on puzzle books and reading a variety of books.

Ellen is survived by three sons: Leonard (Jean) Barnes of Hotchkiss, Scott (Christine) Barnes of Silt, and Kevin Barnes of Hotchkiss; and one brother, Melvin (Sharlene) Woods of Grand Junction. Ellen is further survived by eight grandchildren whom she loved and adored.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, David and Katie Woods; and one brother, David Woods Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ellen’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
