Elmer Suds thief gets away clean

An armed robber held up the Elmer Suds liquor store in New Castle Thursday evening.

A white male entered the liquor store in the New Castle Plaza at about 7:30 p.m., according to a press release from the New Castle police chief Chris Sadler. The man had been in the store a short time earlier and returned.

The clerk on duty told police the suspect pulled a gun and demanded cash from the cash register, Sadler reported.

Although the robber didn’t point the gun directly at the clerk, she told police she feared for her life. The clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of cash, Sadler said.

The clerk described the gunman as 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 10 in height, clean shaven, 35 to 40 years old, with light colored eyes. His hair was either dark blonde or light brown and cut short. He wore a black cowboy hat, jeans and a short, off-white, hooded rain slicker.

He reportedly left the liquor store on foot.

New Castle police are requesting assistance from anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the robbery or has information about the identity of the suspect.

Call the New Castle Police at 984-2303 or Crime Stoppers at 945-0101.
