Emily Griffith center needs used horse tack

It’s not spring yet, but a little premature spring cleaning couldn’t hurt. And it could be a big help to a local organization. The Emily Griffith Center, a home for troubled boys, is hoping for donations of used horse tack. They need saddles, blankets, bridles, boots and just about anything people might be able to find in the back of their sheds and barns. The Center has four horses that all the boys at the center have an opportunity to bond with in special equine therapy sessions. The program, Trails to Trust, helps boys learn about themselves, caring for something and taking responsibility.”All of the tack we have has been used from the beginning,” said Lori Bennett, a member of the Emily Griffith board of directors. “Since we use it every day all the time, it just gets worn out.”The Center will host its third annual Gymkhana this April. It’s the program’s largest fundraiser and made more than $5,000 for Trails to Trust last year. Any donated tack that the boys don’t need on a daily basis or any of the older items they can replace with new donations will be included in a silent auction at the Gymkhana, Bennett said.”It takes a lot of money to care for these horses,” she said. “Anything helps.”
