Engineers advise School District No. 16

Garfield School District No. 16 is trying to cut costs any way it can.Tuesday, engineers from Ennovate Corporation, an energy service company based in Denver, will give the school board a detailed summary of how the school district can be more energy-efficient.Ennovate audited every district building to determine where the district could cut energy costs.”We’re interested in anything we can do to save money,” said Sandy Hanson, public information director for Garfield 16.Caren Cowan and Randy Pietz, trip coordinators for St John Middle School’s “Incentive” field trip, will talk to the board about their upcoming trip.Eighth-grade students who excel in math, science and reading can go on the trip if they haven’t demonstrated any behavioral problems.This year, the students will go to the Sunnyside Mill in Silverton, tour Canyon DeChelly in Arizona, visit the Petrified Forest National Park, Meteor Crater near Winslow, Ariz., take a guided tour of Acoma, N.M., go to Petroglyphs National Park and several other attractions in Albuquerque, N.M. Students keep daily journals and must do chores during the trip.
