Enjoy the sounds of a healthy society

Dear Editor,

Much has been written about the objection to noise by Smith, et al. This is admittedly a terrible paraphrase, but noise is in the ears of the beholder. A tolerance of certain noises may depend on a person’s background.

Having written that, we in the United States of America are fortunate that the noise in the streets is not that of tanks, missiles and artillery. It is not the noise of depth charges, the nearly silent, deadly swish of the torpedo approaching a ship or a suicide airplane headed for the bridge of your ship. It is not the noise of a car bomb or a homicide bomber.

For example, last night in my neighborhood young adults were playing some kind of game in the street. They were yelling and screaming in delight. Music to my ears. Earlier, a couple of compact cars went by with the sound booming (sound system may have cost more than the car) and a motorcycle (Hog?) with loud pipes went down the street. The sounds of a healthy, affluent society.

Let the Hogs rev, the kids play, the birds sing, the crickets chirp, the bees buzz and celebrate that you have your ability to hear and can enjoy these “noises” in a free country.

May the Supreme Ruler of the Universe continue to bless our nation, whomever you believe can grant that blessing.

Thanks for listening.
