Ernie Nuler, father of Kristen Chadwick of Glenwood Springs, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in Seattle, of natural causes. He was 87.Ernie grew up in a Swedish family in Detroit. After serving in the Army air corps – he was stationed in Italy during World War II – Ernie attended the University of Michigan Engineering School and met his future wife, Martha. They married after graduation in 1948 and moved to Seattle, where he worked as a structural aeronautical engineer for Boeing Aeronautics for more than 30 years.Ernie was active in his community, including the Fauntleroy Church, YMCA, Camp Colman, Indian Guides, Boy Scouts and Hood Canal Coop.His passions were engineering, building and traveling. He loved to tell stories and jokes. He spent many happy hours laughing at practical jokes played on guests at the family summer cabin on Hood Canal. He traveled extensively in Europe, India, China and Tibet.Ernie lost his wife of more than 50 years in 2001.He is survived by his three children and their spouses, Kristen (Glenn) Chadwick, of Glenwood Springs, John Nuler (Kit Cudahy), of West Seattle, and Nancy (Ron) Rinker, of West Seattle; and five grandchildren, including Lindsey and Megan Chadwick, of Glenwood Springs.The memorial service was March 17.
